Who we are
UnGovr is a not-for-profit organization. We build a public, searchable record of how government works. We are nonpartisan, and we seek records for the public benefit, not for commercial resale.
Why you received our request
We sent your agency a request for public records under the California Public Records Act. The email you received describes exactly what we asked for and where to send it. This page stays the same for every request; only the email carries the specifics.
How to respond
- Reply by email. A reply to the message you received reaches us. You do not need to create an account or use a portal.
- Any no-login delivery works. An email attachment, a download link that does not require a login, or mailed copies are all fine.
- Electronic format is easiest. A spreadsheet export (CSV or Excel) is ideal, but any format your agency keeps is acceptable.
- No such record? Just reply and tell us. If your agency does not maintain what we asked for, a short reply saying so is welcome.
The law that applies in California
Your response is governed by the California Public Records Act. A couple of points that may help:
- If part of a record is exempt, the remainder is still disclosable; please release the rest and note the specific exemption.
- We ask that fees be waived or limited to the direct cost of duplication.

What we do with your response
Records you provide become part of UnGovr's public, searchable archive so that residents, journalists, and researchers can find them. We attribute records to your agency and preserve them as sent.
Questions, or should this go to a different office?
If you have a question, or if this request should go to a different records custodian, just reply to our email and tell us. We will update our records and re-send to the right office.
