Population Data Sources

Population data from national statistical offices and census bureaus

Population figures displayed in entity reports are sourced from national statistical offices, census bureaus, and international databases. Population data is aggregated from first-tier administrative divisions (states, provinces, counties, regions, departments, governorates) for each country.

UnGovr currently tracks population data for 99 countries, covering 4.2 billion people (as of February 2026). Population figures are used to calculate per-capita entity counts (entities per 100,000 population) for transparency metrics.

Note on data freshness: Population data is sourced from the most recent available census or official estimate from each country's statistical office. Some countries conduct censuses more frequently than others (e.g., every 10 years vs. continuous annual estimates). We prioritize official government sources over international databases like UN or World Bank to ensure accuracy and consistency with administrative division boundaries.
